IDA (Interdigitated Array) Electrode 5µm

Cyclic Voltammetry Measurement using IDA Electrode

Inter digitated 65 pairs of generator / collector electrodes set off electrochemical RedOx cycling continuously as shown in Fig. 1. This reaction significantly boosts sensitivity of the electrode. Furthermore, samples are preserved when Dual (Red-Ox) Mode is chosen - Not like as Single Mode eats up samples at measurements.

Fig. 3 shows voltammograms of ferrocene samples ((a),(c): 10 µL , (b),(d): 0.2 µL) using IDA electrode ((a),(b): Dual mode; (c),(d): Single Mode). As they indicate, measuring mode makes obvious difference on their responses. Dual mode reinforces reduction current at collector electrodes with increase of oxidation current at generator electrodes. At the measurement (d), response is scarcely obtained because the sample was consumed during the experiment

This device can be used as a substituting item of a connecting part of IDA Electrode.

Please treat IDA Electrodes with care especially when you insert and remove them since it consist of quartz glass.

If you had a difficulty in setting up of an IDA Electrode into a connector at the cable, loosening the four grippers of the connector(shown in a figure below) with a tweezer would work.

Figure in right shows wire assembly of connecting cable.

In order to avoid abrasion on a connector part of the electrode, please insert and remove it according to the following order:

  1. Put the IDA electrode into the connector
  2. Insert the white color electrode fixer into the connector

  1. Remove the white color electrode fixer from the connector
  2. Remove the IDA electrode from the connector


IDA (Interdigitated Array) Electrode 3µm

More fine IDA(Pt/Au) Electrode was developed. Its 3µm pitch working electrodes significantly increase redox cycle and allow reserachers to perform ultra-sensitive measurement.

We recommend to apply Ag/AgCl ink to a reference electrode in order to stabilize potential of the electrode.

Micro Volume Sample Measurement with IDA Electrode 3µm and Cable kit

  1. Insert IDA Electrode 3µm onto Cable kit
    This electrode can be used with Cable kit for IDA electrode (Catalog No.A-011066).
  2. Put sample solution by drops on the IDA electrode. Make the solution to cover the comb-shaped working electrode, the reference electrode and the counter electrode.

A CV curve obtained by 3µm IDA Electrode Au[A] mirrored that of 3µm IDA Electrode Au[B], which means both of the IDA Electrodes were produced very accurately.

For 3 μm Electrode, the limiting current of ferrocene methanol by CV dual mode was 8 times as much as of the peak current by single mode, while this ratio for 5μm Electrode was about 4. This means large increase of the redox cycle.

*Larger area in 5µm IDA Electrode gives the appearance as if its absolute current is larger than 3µm of IDA

Fig.5 shows a result of LSV Dual mode measurement. Its collection efficiency was proved to be 96.4% by our calculation from limiting current of Collector electrodes and Generator electrodes.

Printed Type Ring Disk Electrodes

This ring-disk type electrode developed by NTT-AT is a form of printed electrodes. Users can choose them from Carbon, Gold and Platinum applied versions. Available as a working electrode of radial flow cells, achieves complete reduction/oxidation on the center disk at ultra-low flow rate because of its fine coulometric electrolysis efficiency. This also enables to analyze subsequent reaction as well as identification and qantitation of the sample at the same time. Furthermore, this electrode becomes capable of measuring hydrogen peroxide at zero volt by fixing Osmium Gel / HRP (Horseradish Peroxidase)
(developed by Prof. Adam Heller, Texas Univ.). Thus this Printed electrode comprises FIA (Flow Injection Analysis) system with combinations of various enzymes.

ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) Electrode

This quite unique material transmits only visible light whereas it does not transmit UV radiation. Our ITO electrodes consist of 100 nm thick of ITO layer deposited on quartz glass substrate (0.5 mm thick).
